UAE MINISTRY OF CLIMATE CHANGE & ENVIRONMENT, DUBAI, UAE
Senior Policy Specialist – Climate Change (Mar’20 – May’22)
- Worked closely with the climate and green economy leadership in the Ministry on identification and implementation of strategic priorities on climate mitigation and adaptation policy as well as climate science initiatives.
- Led and contributed to the development of UAE’s international climate commitments and national strategies, including related research, stakeholder consultations and public communications. Co-led the development of the UAE’s Second Nationally Determined Contribution to the Paris Agreement which set the country’s first economy-wide emissions reduction target based on an emissions modelling exercise and qualitative review of federal and emirate-level policies.
- Supported the design of the Climate Ambition and Economic Development Government Accelerator, an accelerated process of stakeholder consultations which laid ground for the announcement of the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.
- Advised the UAE Climate Change Research Network, a Ministry-led platform that brings together scientists to advance climate data collection and research on climate impacts.
- Led the design of projects for increased private sector climate action.
- Acted as technical lead on projects ‘Developing a Roadmap for a Comprehensive GHG and Air Quality MRV system in the UAE’ and ‘Assessment of UAE’s Environmental Goods and Services Sector.’
- Participated as MOCCAE-nominated expert in meetings and research activities of the Task Force on Green Economy and Innovation, contributing to the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative of the Government of Cyprus (2020-21).
- Contributed to Ministry reports and public documents on climate change. Co-authored the first UAE State of Climate Report 2021, a review of the Arabian Gulf region’s changing climate and its impacts.
- Appointed member of UAE Climate Negotiators’ Committee, supporting UAE’s participation in UNFCCC negotiations.
- Provided technical support to the Minister and other senior leaders on dialogue with partner countries and high-level dignitaries.
- Represented the Ministry in technical meetings with government and private entities, and multilateral organisations, on technology/policy topics including hydrogen, clean energy innovation, carbon markets, green post-COVID recovery, amongst others.
- Worked closely with the Communications team at the Ministry on development of climate-related communications including press releases, and messaging documents for public and media.
EMIRATES NATURE IN ASSOCIATION WITH WORLD WIDE FUND FOR NATURE (WWF), DUBAI, UAE
Programme Leader – Climate and Energy (Aug’17 – Jan’20)
- Led the development and implementation of the organisation’s climate and energy programme strategy, including successful design, fundraising and launch of a new pillar of private sector climate action in partnership with HSBC Middle East.
- Led a three-member team to deliver projects on renewable energy policy, low-emission mobility and private sector capacity-building on carbon emissions management.
- Conducted research and stakeholder engagement geared towards science-based policy development and accelerated business action on climate.
- Managed the organisation’s partnerships with government entities, donors, companies and technical bodies. Coordinated engagement with WWF International on inputs to global WWF strategy on priority areas of action and international negotiations.
- Appointed spokesperson for media interactions and conferences.
Project Manager – Footprint, Climate and Energy (Oct ’14 to Jul ’17)
- Managed the Ecological Footprint Initiative, a federal partnership led by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and coordinated by Emirates Nature-WWF.
- Led the development of a UAE vehicle fuel economy policy document, supporting the UAE standardisation body with research on standard design and complementary policies.
- Conducted an assessment of UAE emissions data management and MRV for the UAE National Climate Change Plan, working in coordination with the Global Green Growth Institute.
Senior Policy Officer, Footprint and Climate Change (Mar ’14 – Sep ’14)
- Conducted extensive local data verification to enhance accuracy of UAE’s Ecological Footprint value, creating a strong record of data availability and flows, data gaps and potential data management solutions.
- Undertook research on climate and energy policies in the GCC region.

- Led TERI’s Centre for Research on Energy Security, a four-member team delivering a portfolio of projects on energy sector governance in India, multilateral governance of climate, and risks faced by large fossil fuel producers and consumers.
- As principal investigator and research fellow, delivered projects for varied inter-governmental, governmental and corporate clients including UN-ESCAP, IUCN, DfID UK and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
- Held editorial charge of TERI’s quarterly Energy Security Insights, curating and editing a series of periodicals on energy infrastructure, fossil fuel subsidies, clean energy and energy geopolitics.
- Held editorial charge of the biannual Asian Energy Institute Newsletter, covering contemporary energy and environment issues in Asia.
- Awarded the TERI Roll of Honour (2011-12) for outstanding contribution to the organisation’s growth.
- Undertook research projects on geopolitics of energy, and linkages between energy, climate and security.
- Designed and facilitated high-level stakeholder dialogues on sustainable production and consumption.
